When I spoke to the director James Baines about the script we had the idea of using the sound of the Sparrow to create custom instrumentation that links directly to the theme. The Sparrow was used because of its universality, there are sparrows all over the world, and their migrational patterns. The Sparrow we see in the UK began its journey in Syria, which mirrors the story of many young people fleeing countries torn apart by conflict. We decided to use this process of sampling and apply it to a whole array of migratory animals. And the migrational chorus was born.
