Today's lesson is about 5 commonly Confused word Pairs in English. Have fun studying with TALK! Confusing words. Homonyms are words that sounds the same, but different meanings. 1. Quiet & Quite Quiet - not making or accompanied by any sound. Example: When I entered the room, it was very quiet. Quite - really; positively; a little bit. Example: I was quite tired, when I arrived from work. 2. Allowed & Aloud Allowed - you are permitted to do something. Example: I was allowed to enter the contest. Aloud - loudly; not silent. Example: Please read this aloud. 3. Break & Brake Break - free time; to separate; to destroy. Example: I will break up with my boyfriend because I don't love him anymore. Brake - to stop; device for stopping or slowing a vehicle. 4. Loose & Lose Loose - not firmly or not tight. Example: My clothes are very loose, they are not tight. Lose - failed; didn't win. Example: I lose the competition. Don't worry about it, you will not lose. 5. Principle & Principal Principle - idea; the thing that you believe in. Example: She doesn't eat meat because it is in her principles. Principal - person with higher position;a head; chief Example: She is the school principal, we should respect her a lot.
