Sky News host Alan Jones questions why no federal government minister has raised any issue with the Andrews government’s agreement to the Belt and Road Initiative, which is “China’s invasion of countries by proxy”. The Belt and Road initiative is a loans program whereby China lends massive amounts of money to countries to invest in large infrastructure developments. However, in many cases such as in Sri Lanka, the country which engages in the loans is unable to fulfil their repayment commitments thus releasing control of the project to the Chinese government. The Victorian government controversially signed a memorandum of understanding with Beijing for more than $25 million in infrastructure loans. “The federal government seems to be silent in relation to this bloke Andrews,” Mr Jones told Sky News host Peta Credlin. “This is basically China’s invasion of countries by proxy. “This is the way they’re going to manipulate and manage control and incursions into regions where they previously haven’t been. “I suppose Daniel Andrews thinks ‘if we go broke, China will bail us out if I sign up to the Belt and Road Initiative.’” Image: AP
