ZapToys RC Car TEAR DOWN

ZapToys RC Car TEAR DOWN. I picked this one up at the recyling centre. I was surprised to find the transmitter with it but when I tried it the range was rediculously short, just a few inches. I was hoping it might be something simple like the antenna broken but when I took it apart the reciever has a 40MHz sticker while the transmitter is labled 27MHz. I am guessing one possible explanation is it was originally a twin pack with two cars and two transmitters and the pair I found were not a matched pair.
